3D no neccesseraly has to be photo realistic. There are some good examples of highly stylized works with a cartoon shaders, which has a black outline. I remember seeing this video some years ago. If I remember correctly it won some sort of independent film award or something? I'm not sure, but it's a fantastic example of great animation. However, as good as it is, I've never been a fan of the manga-esk Japanese anime style. Don't think I ever watched it right to the end before though, when I saw it I just saw the first half which was all that had been released back then. Another instalment on the way?
